In this video game of football (soccer) you now use much of a distance and a standing tackle. The precision dribbling allows you to gain a yard or so to give you an opportunity to score a goal. The player impact engine is almost two years in the making and allows for very realistic collisions between players.
You most likely will spend most of your time playing the career mode : but it’s easy to buy crédits fut 16 to gold farmers… This is a simulation of a full season where you can play as a player, manager or both. It is very time consuming, but realistic. You get to buy players during the transfer period and play matches as they would happen in a normal season. This mode has been improved and is more engaging. Some new features that have been added is that you have a youth scout. When the transfer deadline approaches you have 12 hours to finalize all your transfers like in the real world. Also players are more interactive and they will bug you if they want to play or need a rest. The commentary sometimes also includes comments about live things that are happening during the season.
Online play has more features than before. As you collect experience points this also counts towards your sports football club. This gives them a position on the international league table which resets on a weekly basis. You also get to play quick ranked matches where you are matched with an opponent of a similar skill level.
Fifa 16 represents an amazing improvement on FIFA 15.
It also includes FIFA Ultimate Team 16 which was previously only available as a dlc after purchasing. You get to build your very own team through buying and selling players. However, you start with a very average bunch of players.
If you are a soccer fan you have no option except to buy it.
LA Noire is set in Los Angeles, 1947. You play as a detective called Cole Phelps who has recently graduated from from police academy. You’ll find the story reference the passed with black and white cutscenes coming nicely together as the missions unfold. Revealing how Cole Phelps became a detective. LA Noire although a sandbox game is more linear than Grant Theft Auto or Blade and Soul Gold . The backdrop environment is laced with neo marquees ,rain slick boulevards and jazz clubs. LA Noire is a cinematic experience that borrows heavily from classic 1940s and 50s film noir and neo-noirs like Chinatown and LA Confidential.
Where smoking cigarettes is still a classy fashion statement and the abuse of women is a man’s manly prerogative.
LA Noire’s boast an impressive facial animation technology called Motion Scan. The technology uses multiple high-definition cameras to capture an actor’s facial expressions in 3D for use within the game’s engine. The results are startlingly life-like, even if some of the facial performances are a bit exaggerated.There is no doubt that LA Noire surpasses Heavy Rain to set a new benchmark for facial animation in a videogame. Sadly, the Motion Scan technology wasn’t used for the body animations, so they do look a little jerky and wooden compared to the facial work.
Much of the game involves collecting bits of evidence, questioning witnesses and suspects, and working out how everything is connected. A bit like stalking your ex on Facebook then, but with more serial murders and pyromaniacs. The collecting bits of evidence part is straightforward enough – you’ll spend a lot of time gumshoeing around crime scenes and waiting on the telltale controller rumble to point out anything worth inspecting, and making a note of it for later.
It’s the questioning witnesses and suspects part that really makes this game, though, and was also largely responsible for its numerous delays. Team Bondi put a lot of development time and cash into its MotionScan tech, and simply enough, you’ve never seen anything even remotely like it in any game before, ever – ever.
Dark Souls is the follow up to Demons Soul. It is a third persion dungeon RPG game.
As in a typical RPG game you first need to create your character and define the
characteristics. It has a very dark vision and the focus is on the game. There are
no cinematic distractions. You enter a kingdom with many horrors. There are knights,
gargoyles and ogres. It is a fascinating world.
The world mainly consists of regions and is a large area of tunnels, swamps, caves
and towns. The gameplay mainly consists of unique challenges where you have to
creatively strategize to overcome the level.The game is extremely challenging and I
would have given it a higher score if the game were easiery to play. You need to
devote all your concentration as the game is very unforgiving. For the amateur game
player the level of difficulty will be extremely frustrating.
The further that you go into the game the more horror and twisted the game becomes.
A major part of the strategy are bonfires. You need to rest at a bonfire to restore
your health. The problem is that when you die you start again at the bonfire you
last rested at. Also the enemise that you killed afterwards regenerate as well. You
also get to usee melee combat when you are close to your enemies and magic.
The crucial part of Dark Souls is the online multiplayer. The game is so frustratingly
difficult that it is very unlikely that you will finish it by yourself. However,
if you go online and play as a collective it becomes substantially easier. You can even
summon help at certain difficult stages of the game especially boss fights. You can do
this even when you play offline. I think that the developers especially made the game
difficult to do this.
Overall Dark Souls is an excellent RPG game. However, I have reduced the rating as it is
With the Xbox version of FUT 16, it’s apparent that EA was sick and tired of being upstaged by Konami’s Winning Eleven series. The Vancouver-based dev team decided that enough was enough, set their sights on ousting WE from the top of the soccer game food chain. When you take into account the FIFA licensing (that WE doesn’t have), I’d say : MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
EA decided to create two fairly different soccer products for the Xbox and Xbox 360 this year. Of particular interest is the Xbox 360 version of FIFA 16, for it contains a gameplay engine that is the future of soccer gaming – at least in EA’s eyes. EA has ventured out on the limb pretty early with FIFA 16’s 360 engine. Is FUT 16 for the Xbox 360 too far ahead of its time, or is this first-model-year SKU worth digging into ? And who needs buy crédits fut 16 now ?
EA’s next-gen catalog is, for the most part, an early-adopter’s dream. The first titles in EA’s big series are usually retail betas of items that we won’t see until the Xbox 720 releases in three years. Autosculpt, EA Sports Lab, and UCAP are just a few of the items that will become commonplace in EA games.
FUT 16 is as “brand new” as a title can get, as it has been completely overhauled with gameplay features that will surely make it into the next few iterations. The biggest change in FIFA 16 – and the one that really separates the next-gen SKU from the previous-gen entry – is that ball and player physics are now two separate entities. In previous FIFA games (and the current Xbox version), the action is animation-driven, which means that the ball is always drawn to a character’s foot. There are no arbitrary ball movements, since the ball is seemingly tethered to a player’s foot, which means that predictability is right around the corner.
The dependent ball physics of past titles are particularly troublesome and predictable when it comes time to take a shot on goal. The goalie has the same few angles to cover and shots to save, as these are tied to the ball coming at him. Experienced players can memorize these few goalie moves, and change their shot taking technique to “trigger” an animation that causes the goalie to miss. For instance, a quick lateral move inside the box almost always registers a goal in FUT 16
The dependent ball physics system in previous games has been scrapped in favor of a system for FUT 16 that gives the ball a “mind of its own”. In FIFA , you can play the ball into space, and it will react much more realistically to speed and weight. The ability to touch the ball one direction and run your character a completely different way has huge benefits, as skilled players can play a ball ahead and run in an unorthodox path to the pill in order to confuse the D.
But perhaps the biggest benefit of independent ball physics is when it comes time to take a shot. The sliding power gauge is nearly the same (tweaked a bit for character skill), but shots can now end up in any portion of the net, based on the player’s strike and the physics imparted on the rock. This creates interesting situations where goalies can be beaten by an odd bounce (as in the real sport), a rocket shot that they might tip but not fully save, or by a curving blast that is simply misplayed.
The ball isn’t the only thing that has gotten some love in FIFA 16 for the Xbox 360. The aforementioned Sports Lab debuted at E3 2015 with fifa 16 crédits , and is in full-swing in FUT, creating players that really seem to be held to the pitch by gravity. Lesser techniques create character that float on the pitch, or ones that can stop and turn on a dime, which we all know is rubbish. For a player to move abruptly in one direction, inertia tells us that weight must be planted and shifted for the desired result. The characters in FIFA Soccer 07 abide by the laws of physics, which instantly makes the action on the pitch more believable looking. Playability is also amplified with these techniques since maneuvers that should take more time to complete (a 360 for example) actually do.
Player attributes have been moved much more to the forefront in FUT 16, which means the stars really shine out there. The system that defines what makes a licensed player good (or bad) has been made more resolute, and includes tendencies which modify base attributes. The increased resolution creates an A.I. system which has tons of variety, as each and every player is a bit different from another – there’s no carbon copies here.
The feature set of this game is pretty standard fare. EACA did revamp the Manager mode, which now allows players to be upgraded through play. The online doesn’t include the fancy Interactive Leagues feature of the previous-gen version of FIFA, but playing four-on-four is a HUGE plus over some of EA’s other sports titles. And the Challenges are back, with over eighty different ways to make you pull your hair out. Yes, these challenges are fun, but many are not for the faint of heart or weak of thumb.
Gameplay Impressions :
The FIFA licensing is well-utilized in crédits fifa 16 pas cher and is what you have come to expect in recent years from EA. The Sports Lab work enables gamers to play FIFA Soccer more like a person would play soccer in real life which is really the goal in any sim-style sports game, isn’t it ?
The weight and individuality that each player carries on the pitch is nearly spot-on. There’s definite room for improvement in the area of tying all of these nice character animations together, however. This seems like a company-wide problem in the HD era for EA, and not necessarily this title alone. Every now and then the characters will animate less smoothly from frame-to-frame (it seems like a transitional issue in the coding), and there’s a lack of consistency in the speed of the sets. For example, you may go to do a freestyle move, which results in your player speeding up unrealistically. Once EA figures out how to smoothly tie together animations and stabilize the speed between athletic moves, they’ll have hit the mother-load of sports-based photorealism.
The ball physics moving independently of the characters is surely the future of all sports gaming. The system in FUT 16 is already fairly polished. There are some instances where the drag between the ball and the ground is too high, but mostly the rock skirts where it may about the pitch.
Graphics and audio
An issue of player “grease” which popped up in FIFA 15 has been pretty well taken care of in FIFA 16. Characters look much more realistic, and much less made of Plasticine. The facial maps on the star players and their general MoCap swaggers are very authentic – it’s the best that EA has offered in a soccer game to date. The aforementioned animation hiccup does affect the graphics some, for the players look a bit jerky out there, but the general physics system (which gives the character’s weight) makes up for a large part of this anomaly.
The booth broadcast is usually unflappable in FIFA games, but I noticed some issues with it in FUT 16. The performance by the broadcasters is still wonderful, and the written dialog is realistic, but the important matter of synching the words with the action is a bit off. This doesn’t happen with every possession, but I often found that the call was a few clicks behind the action, or totally cuing the wrong audio piece for the play. The redeeming aural bit in FIFA is that the soundtrack is an amazing international brew, and the sound effects (including crowd chants) are second to few.
The Bottom Line
As mentioned above, EA likes to captivate early adopters with technology that may be a just a stone’s throw from perfect, and FIFA for the 360 is a perfect example. The independent ball physics are about where they need to be, but the interaction of player with said ball is still a first touch or two away from being the cat’s meow.
FUT 16 for the Xbox 360 is still worth picking up for the excellent graphics, and for a glimpse into the future of sports gaming. Those looking for the most complete and best playing soccer game this year will still want to grab FIFA for the big black box.
In the world of strategy games, two distinctive sub genres have always been maintained, each with its own fans and detractors, pros and cons. In one corner, meticulous turn-based strategy games such as the « Civilization » or « Total War » series focus on an ability to execute well-planned strategies over a long period of time. In the other, offerings such as « Warcraft III » ( gold making : http://protein-gold.com/wow/) and « Command and Conquer » operate in real time and reward speed, guts and quick reactions. Developed by Ironclad Games and published by Stardock Online, « Sins of a Solar Empire » shoots these concepts out into space and unifies these seemingly opposite styles of play into one thrilling game experience.
Before delving into the review proper, it seems necessary to issue a warning. If you have been enjoying a decent sleep schedule and a productive social life, do not buy this game. Once you’ve launched that first fleet, you’ll suddenly find that there’s always one more planet to conquer, another tech to research or enemy fleet that needs destroying.
In « Sins, » you play commander-in-chief to a trio of space-faring races, each with a distinct visual design and different motives for galactic domination. While the lore doesn’t go into Blizzard-like detail, the back story is sufficient in giving each faction an individual feel.
The game begins with players in control of a single planet, with access to further planets limited by phase lanes that allow ships to jump at faster-than-light speeds and players to create strategic chokepoints. A small game between two players may limit the scope to a mere ten planets while larger games can incorporate up to 100 planets spread across multiple solar systems. In order to successfully muster a fleet large enough to conquer the galaxy, players must expand and hold additional planets and asteroids for their mineral wealth and taxable populations.
Even at the beginning the stage, the unique balance that Ironclad has accomplished is evident. Players can immediately build some scout and light frigate units and group these together in a fashion familiar to any RTS (real-time strategy) veteran, but the path to top tier units and upgrades requires planet development and expansion reminiscent of turn-based games.
To fuel both fleet and home, three resources are needed. Credits are gained from the tax base on individual planets while metal and crystal must be mined from asteroids orbiting each heavenly body. In order to mimic the fast-paced feeling of an RTS, the game offers an astounding amount of places to spend money and minerals. You can explore your planet for useful artifacts, develop weapon and hull upgrades, research new ship types and build the military and civilian labs necessary to unlock new technologies.
The combat is respectably balanced and allows for a variety of strategies and counters. A nice variety of craft, ranging from scout ships and support cruisers up to giant capital craft that gain experience and levels, facilitate the dynamic battles. However, the game’s easy on the macro management of forces necessary for victory in more hardcore RTS’s and relies instead on bringing the right force to bear in any given situation. This again exemplifies the expert blending of qualities that makes « Sins » such a remarkable game.
The visuals in « Sins » are commanding not only in the level of detail paid to each individual ship and structure, but in the game engine that renders all these so smoothly. Zooming in and out of the action is accomplished by the simple scroll of a mouse wheel and an intuitive camera system (For once, thank God!) makes it easy to keep up. However, it simply can’t compete with games such as « Crysis » or « Unreal Tournament III » pixel-for-pixel.
While the ships available to each faction are practically identical, the tech trees required to construct each ship vary from race to race, creating an exciting sense of give and take. Would you rather play as the Vasari and be able to research your LRM frigate on the initial tier or use the TEC’s quicker access to trade port construction for an early economic incentive? By integrating such decisions into a real time framework, « Sins » creates a pervasive tension that lasts throughout the two-hour plus matches.
« Sins » most notably achievement is the interface used to keep all these precariously assembled elements in place. Called the Empire Tree, a scrollable list on the left side of the screen uses simple icons to represent all your empire’s vast holdings. Organized by planet, it keeps track of every ship and structure occupying that space, be it friend or foe. It also allows for the construction of units and buildings without shifting the view to that particular planet. Thus, you can direct units in a heated battle and queue up some reinforcements without moving the screen away from the action. And while this interface keeps your intergalactic holdings neatly organized, the ability to assess your total number of military and civilian tech labs at a glance causes some frustration.
Other minor flaws mar the game from being flat-out perfect but are never so jarring as to disrupt enjoyment. Its lack of a story-driven single-player campaign may be a sore point for some, but while it would have been a nice addition, it doesn’t seem necessary (no one complains about the « total War » games lacking a campaign mode : read Shouldn’t MMO’s end ? ) Some players may also find the game’s length frustrating, as online battles can easily reach into the four to eight hour range.
Online multiplayer is offered through Ironclad’s proprietary service, Ironclad Online, and at the moment seems to suffer most from a lack of players. It also features the usual problems associated with online RTS and some people may have trouble getting their router to cooperate (port forwarding, anyone?). However, Stardock has a good track record when it comes to supporting its products, so expect future patches to improve the service’s usability.
Finally, the game’s space setting makes it a thrill to play for every sci-fi fan. The epic ship-to-ship battles recall some of the greatest moments from popular science fiction and the game allows for the easy renaming of any ship or planet. So, if you’ve ever wanted to lead the Battlestar Galactica against an armada of Cylon forces or to recreate the Battle of Endor (« it’s a trap! »), « Sins of a Solar Empire » will take you to a galaxy far, far away.
Game companies are as bad as politicians when it comes to failing to fulfill their promises, but « Sins » is one of those rare games that excels because it accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do: combine the thoroughness and planning of turn-based strategy with the thrill and pace of a RTS.
REVIEW VERDICT: For this strategy hybrid, space is the place. (8.5 out of 10)
When I sat down to start playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 it was with a lot of trepidation. The previous version was a big disappointment and I could even go as far to say it was one of the worst instalments of this popular franchise. It had very good movie scenes almost the quality of an animated Disney movie, but the main problem was the linear gameplay. You went through the game going in a linear fashion and there was nothing to explore. Also the battle system for fighting enemies was a mess. This made for a very repetitive dull and uninteresting game.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 fixes all these problems and I have to admit that it was a joy to play. There is a very big open world that you get to explore. There are also side missions that you can get to play. These are optional and give you a lot of choice in the way that you get to play the game. The battle system has also been substantially improved. There is auto battle with your abilities determined by what role needs to be played to defeat the enemy. There are also paradigm shifts that allow you to change your battle tactics based on the strengths and weaknesses of your enemy. So for example you could aggressively attack and then defend if you are fighting a boss battle and the boss launches a lethal strike. You also get to collect monsters. This is really nifty when you are fighting and a monster fights in battle with you. For certain boss battles you will not be able to defeat the boss without the assistance of the monster that acts as a medic and revives your health. You also need to purchase weapons that help with your tactics and potions etc that restore your health and even revive you from the dead.
An interesting fact that I learned about Square Enix is that they are closely aligned with Sony and use PS3 tools to develop the game. Once done they export it to XBOX and PC. So you are assured that the PS3 version is the best. They also have developers that left to go work with Sony so the relationship is much better than with Microsoft.
The story of final fantasy goes as follows. Lightning finds herself protecting the throne of Valhalla. She meets Noel from the future and asks him to travel back in time to find her sister Sarah. Based on this main plot you get to travel between time gates to get to your various destinations to complete your missions. Things that I liked was the quick time events system in the movie scenes. These make you feel like you are playing in the game. The boss battles are also epic and require a lot of concentration and tactis to defeat the boss.
When starting a new game you always think about what it is going to be like. When playing a sequel to an already great game you ask yourself is this going to be better than its already awesome predecessor. What new powers, enemies and landscapes will they come up with? Will the graphics improve? How can they improve an already magnificent game ?
Well the guys at sucker punch productions did exactly that. Continuing from the first game infamous 2 begins with an intense cut scene and fierce battle with foretold “the beast” from the previous game. Cole now has a surname. And some new friends helping Cole prepare from the upcoming fight against the beast. Yet things don’t go the way they planned. And Cole losses his powers. That’s all I’m allowed to tell you. But Cole and his friends named zeke and kuo go to a new place too get a new ray sphere so that Cole can grow stronger for the upcoming battle. Infamous is an open world action adventure game with some RPG elements. Mainly The weather effects, how civilians respond to Cole and the colour of Cole’s electricity. Infamous 2 does what all sequels should do. Improving an already impressive formula. Infamous 2 still contains the comic book style cut scenes but also has new stunning in game cut scenes. The graphics of infamous 2 have been thoroughly improved. Cars, buildings even Cole looks better.
Instead of reapers and dustman you begin fighting a group of enemies called the militia who run the city called new Marias the city Cole and his friends reside in now. As the game progresses you encounter a new variety of freakishly scary monsters in all shapes and sizes and mutated human men with different powers. The variety of new enemies and new bosses create a world where you are always learning and mastering the usage of your powers. Every enemy is different thus creating a deep need to adapt and improve your skills. Thus making infamous 2 more challenging and less repetitive than the first one. The fact that zapping them with bolts of electricity just isn’t enough makes for some interesting gaming
Levelling up is probably the biggest pain in the game because now you are forced to do side missions and perform stunts, it creates longetivity in the game but takes away the power of the main story because between the main missions if you want to level up you have to do side missions… but doing those side missions are totally worth it .the rewards are amazing powers making you into a force to be reckoned with Rambo look out. In addition to Coles usual electric attacks there are new ionic attacks which see you utilising ray sphere rays to create a new variety of attacks. And different ways to pulverise your enemies
Cole was once upon a time a lone wolf now he has found a pack of “freaks “just like him, friends with powers who help you through various missions but once again it boils down to the choice between red or blue. As the game progresses a new element becomes available to Cole depending on which of your team mates you side with. Decision making has become an even bigger part to the game. Choices have become harder and complex than before. Making it fun and interesting with a variety of twists
The variety of sounds in the game (Rock Band is a must to read for this) creates a strong feel to the virtual world which Cole inhabits. Some vivid sounds like when Cole recharges himself really stress the amount of power he absorbs. All electricity and lightning sound effects are perfect. Even the fire and ice effects are spot on. Cars, conversations and terrain effects are accurate. The sound effects on infamous 2 are top notch. The voice actors are brilliant delivering their parts with powerful emotions and vigour and vim.
The only flaws I can think of when it comes to infamous 2 are the fact that you are forced to do side missions and perform stunts to unlock new powers and abilities. The graphics are great but there are some aliasing problems and some textures don’t seem to render too well. Every now and then there are glitches which force you to reload the game but it does not occur frequently so it’s not much of a problem. Boss battles can sometimes be a long tedious process. Activating transformers can also be a long process.
Despite all its flaws infamous 2 is still a great gaming giving you almost 24 hours worth of game play. It’s got a deep riveting story. Excellent graphics, challenging enemies, a variety of abilities and the RPG elements, like Runescape , in the game are for the win. Infamous 2 is definitely a play again on my list.

Admittedly, I’ve never been a huge fan of Samuel L. Jackson, but I do like samurai, animation and brawling/hack’n’slash video games, so, naturally, I found an appealing allure to Takashi Okazaki‘s Afro Samurai video game adaptation when it released earlier this year. I really don’t watch much television, so I figured the title would serve as a gateway into the story of the series, which the game does a serviceable job in recreating events from the animation’s first season. What I experienced was far from perfect, but the journey was indeed one that satisfied my hack’n’slash lust while packing on one of the most stylish presentations you’ll see in a licensed video game.
The game does cut off the very beginning of the story, only returning to it to help players understand what the plot presents to them, but the premise is as follows: In an alternate-reality Feudal Japan, a pair of headbands exist that serve as the trophy of ultimate power – their origins are shrouded in mystery and differ from person to person and some even claim they give their owners supernatural or godlike powers. The white headbands feature Japan’s rising sun symbol and the appropriate kanji for “ichiban” and “niban,” which translate to the number one and number two titles bestowed to their owners in the game. The warrior in possession of the number one headband is seen as the mightiest warrior in the land and can only be challenged by one sporting the number two headband, which makes the number two a constant target for any thug, ninja, ronin, assassin, etc., looking to make a name for themselves.
As a child, Afro’s father was the number one until he was decapitated in front of his son’s own eyes by a mysterious warrior named Justice. With his father’s final words of “avenge me,” he abandons his current life to be known only as The Afro Samurai, whose only purpose in life is to locate the number two to earn his place as the challenger to Justice for his pure motivation of revenge. The game kicks off as Afro gets a lead on the headband and takes players through a variety of locations in Japan as they unfold the tragic life of Afro and his ultimate revenge against Justice. The title tries its hand at a mix of elements as players will slice through legions of enemies while also having access to Prince of Persia style wall runs and jumps for platforming elements and leveling up through experience to earn more fighting moves.
From the get go, players will immediately see the hand-drawn stylings of the animation created through cell shading and the results are spectacular, giving everything a traditional brushstroke and calligraphy-styled look. Each character model animates just as well, even though their mouths don’t move during speech outside of a cutscene, but it’s a wonder if this graphical overload leads to some of the slowdown encountered during some of the bigger battles and there are a few clipping issues with the models.
The visuals get paired with equally-stellar sound, with notables such as Samuel L. Jackson, Ron Pearlman and Lucy Lu lending their voices to the game and, overall, there is a lot of voice samples to be heard in the title – a few of them are forgettable, but most of the dialog and voice effects really hit the mark, even though the language borderlines on forcibly profane. Battles yield sick gushes of blood spilling out and death screams and the clash of steel echoes during fights, which are all backed up by tunes courtesy of The RZA of Wu-Tang fame. Whether or not rapping and urban beats are your forte, they make sense in the context of an afro-sporting samurai as the beats are laced with harmonies of Eastern influence. Some of the tunes are even choreographed with certain cutscenes, which really makes them stand out and add more depth to the presentation. The music in the title does eventually start to repeat itself a bit, but there’s no doubt it will leave a lasting impression on many gamers.
With such an awesome presentation, it’s kind of a shame that the gameplay doesn’t meet its full potential here, though. Being of the hack’n’slash genre, you can imagine that the fighting in the game does get a bit repetitive even though Afro does have an expansive list of offensive and defensive moves at his disposal. The platforming does serve as a bit of a weak spot in the grand scheme of things, though, with the jump animation being a little rough if Afro isn’t following a launched foe and some techniques such as wall running not operating as it should – and the jumping isn’t helped too much by a lot of the collision problems players will encounter on occasion, such as trying to jump down from a roof while in battle. When you further couple this with poor camera positioning and controls, there might be some areas that frustrate players, but I found them to be minimal in frequency. Things such as the body part poker mini-games try to break up the monotony, but they are far and few between, with a lot of the boss battles being quite underwhelming (sans the extreme battle with an android Afro) and players fighting the same types of enemies over and over, Afro Samurai will test your tolerance for repetition like any other brawler genre game. There are also a few minor annoyances in the spread of checkpoints and it’s quite odd that the pause menu doesn’t allow for some of the options available at the main menu, piling on to the heap of minor qualities that drag the game down from its potential.
But that being said, if you’re into brawlers or hack’n’slash games, you’ll probably know what you’re getting into anyway, and the game rewards players with a long list of combos and techniques they can use to disfigure, decapitate and deform enemies with. If you like your games with a lot of blood, it’s certainly here and it’s done with style with overexaggerated amounts. With a focus attack, players can slow down time and use targeted special strikes to aim for specific body parts and nothing is more gratifying than slicing four enemies in half with a single slice. If you can pound through the repetitive nature of the title and some of its control and gameplay issues, players will find a satisfying action-filled title that hits every corner of the mature-rated trinity.
With Afro Samurai, players get excellent presentation and some mindlessly satisfying moments of violence, but everything else thereafter is a bout of mediocrity. The title can be damn fun and while players most likely won’t even use half of the move list, it is surprisingly robust in its combat. However, slowdown, glitches, control issues and lack of variety really put a hurt on what the game really could have been.
It’s hard to believe that EA’s FIFA franchise has been around since 1993. We’re talking grunge era folks; plaid flannels, the Gulf War, and not even an outside chance that Team U.S.A. would be a World Cup contender…or even be in the big dance for that matter.
Things have changed a great deal from the early 90’s, both in the video game world and in the way that U.S. citizens embrace soccer. Systems are hundreds of dollars this day and age and rival many desktops in power, and many U.S. gamers are actually more excited for E.A.’s next-gen football that is NOT endorsed by Mr. Madden. But regardless of the console’s power or a country’s view on soccer, EA Sports has been there with a FIFA title for fifteen straight years.
Title number ten – FIFA Soccer 15 - is EA’s most complete soccer title to date. On paper, FIFA 15 is packed with the features that soccer players expected in the previous two FIFA next-gen titles, but EA was unable to completely deliver . We’re talking about online leagues, advanced ball striking physics and analog stick player maneuvers that are both signature and free-form at the same time. But as we all know, video soccer games are played on pitches of 1’s and 0’s and not on a legal pad, and EA has built up somewhat of a reputation as a “paper sms champion”. We’re not sure why the decision was made to release this upgrade via DLC after the game’s release, but we applaud the decision to even try such a thing. Even the video upload feature seen in everything from sci-fi shooters to racing games has been added to FIFA 15, which allows highlight reels to be created from the myriad game modes, and uploaded to an EA-hosted website. A new Tournament mode (over fifty authentic tourneys) and the same comprehensive manager mode as in recent FIFA titles rounds out the true definition of robustness in video game form.
The area of the next-gen FIFA franchise that unarguably needed the most attention was player control. Independent player and ball physics was a bold step in FUT 14, but one that resulted in a bit of incongruity between user inputs and character actions. Much of the jumpiness from animation-to-animation has been rectified in FUT coins , even though additional moves and animations have been added. An entire linkable skill move set is now in place for the advanced player that doesn’t mind using the analog controls in a fighting-game like fashion. A left trigger modifier allows the left and right analog sticks to work similar to Fight Night punches, pulling off everything from step-overs to rainbow kicks. This new system is still a bit clunky though, as it muddies up the animation transitions once again, but thereÂ’s some real promise here when the system is combined with independent ball physics moments (similar to the result of NHL 14’s new Skill Stick system).
It seemed fitting for Electronic Arts to clean up the shooting dynamic while they were tweaking the player control. FIFA Ultimate team 15 features a ball striking sms system more advanced than pretty much any other sport out there, taking into account player balance and speed, the height and bounce of the ball and the actual ranking of the character taking the kick. EA also paid particular attention to the fact that shots taken further out need more effort than those shot at close range, so the shooting gauge was re-mapped to reflect this. The gauge still seems a bit too sensitive for our tastes (even the shortest of button holds tends to create an 80%+ power shot) and could use some finer tuning. We do however love the new shot aiming system and the ability to set it to Assisted (shooting at left, right or center of the net), Semi-Assisted (the CPU computes the best quadrant for shot success) and Manual (player shoots exactly where you aim).
EA is finally taking a “nothing ventured, nothing gained” attitude with their sports franchises, and it appears to be working. The gaming juggernaut is slowly building allegiances with the harder-core gamers that have been dogging the company for not stepping up as of late, which, in the long run, simply means better games for all of us. FIFA Ultimate Team 16 is the embodiment of EA’s new attitude toward their SKU’s quality and substance.
While this current FIFA is solid, EA still needs to put its best cleat forward and utilize this latest SKU as a stepping stone toward soccer game nirvana. FUT 15 is, however, an authoritative crossover step in the right direction.
